Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The adventurer has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the team reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
